Karawang, Jawa Barat - In a bid to enhance digital literacy among Indonesians, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) recently held a webinar focused on online scams. The event, attended by digital enthusiasts from Karawang and Purwakarta, aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely.

Rizki Ayu Febriana, a Digital Literacy advocate from Kominfo, highlighted the growing prevalence of digital technology in everyday life. While technology offers numerous benefits, it also presents new challenges, particularly in terms of online security.

"To effectively utilize digital platforms, individuals must prioritize four key aspects: digital awareness, responsibility, integrity, and benevolence," said Febriana. "These principles will help us use technology for positive purposes and protect ourselves from harm."

Yusuf Suprianto, the head of the Purwakarta Election Supervisory Board, delved into the topic of skimming, a common form of cybercrime. He explained that skimmers are devices used to steal credit card information from ATMs and other card readers. "Cybercriminals are highly skilled and sophisticated, making it difficult to track and combat their activities," he cautioned.

Another pressing issue discussed during the webinar was love scams. Febriana warned that these scams often involve creating fake profiles to lure victims into romantic relationships with the intention of defrauding them. "Love scams not only result in financial losses but also cause emotional distress," she emphasized.

To protect themselves from online scams, participants were encouraged to be vigilant and to practice good digital hygiene. Larane Hafied, Co-Founder of Paberik Soera Rakjat, stressed the importance of raising awareness about digital threats and fostering a culture of digital safety among all generations.
