In a shocking revelation, Nurhadi, currently serving time at Sukamiskin Prison, confessed to paying bribes to officials at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detention center. His testimony came to light during a virtual hearing at the Jakarta Central Corruption Court on Monday, September 23, 2024.

During the trial, prosecutors questioned Nurhadi about the various expenses he had incurred while in detention. Beyond the monthly payments and the 'bottle fee' – a code for mobile phones – Nurhadi admitted to funding renovations to the officials' homes, including adding fences, kitchens, and doors. He also disclosed that he paid for the medical expenses of the officials' wives and children.

Nurhadi explained that he felt pressured to comply with the officials' requests due to their frequent visits to his cell. "I felt obligated to give them money," he stated. "It was as if I had no choice."

The prosecutors pressed Nurhadi on the specific amounts he had paid, but he could not provide exact figures, claiming that he had given "whatever I could." He identified Hengki and Mahdi Aris as two of the officials who had solicited bribes from him.

A total of 15 former KPK employees have been charged in connection with the bribery scheme, which allegedly involved over Rp 6.3 billion. These individuals are accused of extorting money from inmates between May 2019 and May 2023.

The prosecutors argued that the actions of these former employees constituted a criminal offense, as they had enriched themselves at the expense of others. They face charges under Article 12, letter e, of the Corruption Eradication Law.
